I never knew the true meaning of freedom until I used an Android smartphone. The OS, the features and the usability are simply top class. Want to watch TV on Android? You can do that; want to scan images with your Android? Yep you can do that too. There is simply no limit to what an Android device can achieve, with proper guidance and great apps.
SPB TV
SPB TV is the best app to watch TV on Android simply because of its variety. The app has a lot of channels to keep you occupied for a very long time. The streams are of good quality but sometimes I feel they are not HD, maybe the stream adjusts according to the internet speed.
The app itself comes with a very pleasant looking interface which not only highlights things of interest but also gives you a clear idea of what is on. But what makes SPB TV special is its compatibility with Chromecast, Miracast and WiDi support. While these are not ground breaking features, they are sadly missing from almost every other live TV app for Android I tested.
LiveNow!TV Plus
A simple app which shows you a ton of content, this is Live Now!TV Plus for you. The app comes with DNLA and Chromecast support which is a great thing for those who have invested in those technologies.
The app allows you to watch and even record around 200 live TV channels for absolutely free in standard definition quality. The app also comes with around 500 VOD channels which are once again free in standard definition. To be honest these are great features to have for the price of absolutely zero dollars.
XMTV Player
XMTV Player is a player which has the potential to run live TV channels on it to. As a video player it is not as good as the rest of the best video players for Android but as a TV streaming app, it shines. The player however will need to install a plugin before you can start watching live TV.
The channels are abundant and the streams starts almost instantly. The picture quality of the videos, especially the top rated channels is remarkable and the app is a real joy to use.
Crackle – Movies & TV
Crackle is another good app if you are looking to watch TV on Android devices. Unfortunately the app is not available in all territories, hence its placement so down the list. The app does provide you with some good movies, hit TV shows and nice series. But the thing is the app doesn’t really have a large variety of content to offer.
I think it will hardly take you a couple of months to go through everything you need to see on the app and after that, well it becomes useless.
Viki: Free TV Drama & Movies
Viki is the best TV app for Android if you like to watch foreign content. This app seems to be made for South Koreans in mind first but does feature some content suitable for US viewers. I highly recommend the Korean soaps which come with subtitles; there are some really romantic stories there.
This app was recommended by a female colleague of mine and I really liked the quality of videos. It’s a free TV app for Android so it doesn’t really hurt much to try.
